A little of what’s been on our Hearts and Minds this year

We believe when hearts and minds work in synergy, when passion and creativity connect with robust thinking and process, new futures emerge. As 2019 draws to a close, we want to share with you the 12 things that have been on our hearts and minds this holiday season.

01. Sending Love

Sharing the love is something we do every week in our team meetings, making space to express gratitude to our teammates. And now we’d like to send big love to you!

02. CLIMATE ACTION

Working with packaging producers to take climate action, we are committed to push boundaries and think outside the box to create better packaging solutions with lower environmental impact.

03. RAILYARD LAB

Our eighth Railyard intern cohort finished strong this summer with some incredible social impact projects. Looking ahead, we are thoughtfully iterating for 2020—exploring ways to grow the impact of mentorship.

04. SOCIAL IMPACT

Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside is a strong and resilient community, and has a significant population without permanent shelter. With this in mind, we’re honoured to be helping UGM create a toolkit for Encounter, a unique branded experience that educates people about the hidden barriers the homeless face in our society.

05. DESIGN THINKING

The year started with an exciting first for Dossier—a feature and quote in Professor David Dunne’slatest book “Design Thinking at Work: How Innovative Organizations are Embracing Design.”

06. LIVING WELL + MONDAYS

Building a culture of Living Well begins our work week. After a weekend of adventuring, our team shares stunning photos of their skiing, camping, biking, kayaking, hiking and the occasional nap!

07. INNOVATION

Last spring, we began working with an aquaculture company whose cutting-edge technologies nurture ocean eco-systems while raising healthy and delicious seafood. Our deep dive immersion discovered that more food will have to be produced in the next 50 years than over the past 10,000 years combined!

08. Let’s CELEBRATE!

Gaby and Reg, thank you for your dedication and craft over the last 15 and 20 years, respectively. And a big farewell to Steve (Happy Retirement), we’ve loved creating breakthrough brands with you for over 30 years!

09. RE-USE

Our dedication to lowering our environmental impact includes our holiday card this year. The printed piece we created is not only made with recycled, unbleached paper but it can have a second life beyond the messages. Use the large sheet as wrapping paper or a poster print, and place the mindfulness reminder on your computer.

10. CANNABIS

It’s not often that a new product’s introduction changes so many consumer categories. Working with diverse clients from athletic therapies to infused beverages to pet supplements, we are learning fascinating nuances of this emerging category.

11. MINDFULNESS

Our entire studio undertook eight weeks of mindfulness training to raise awareness of the power of our breath in creating calm, focus and empathy. Try it yourself; put the card below somewhere easily visible as a reminder. Whenever you see it, take three slow, deep breaths.

12. CREATE THE UNSEEN

Creativity is needed in business and our world more than ever before. Creativity also requires time to refresh, so while we pause to relax over the holidays, we also can’t wait to press forward creating new work in 2020 with you.
